Photo-A-Day: August 5

August 5

"The Antigambler." A self-portrait.

I've often considered myself the "anti-gambler", holding my cards close, playing only if there's surety in winning. Adventure is one of my loves, but only when it comes to not risking personally. New food, spontaneity, traveling to new places, these are all tantalizing to me...but loving the hard-hearted, asking difficult, uncomfortable questions, sacrificing what I hold dear–I'd receive an A+ for "shirking."

Kenny Rodger's song, "The Gambler" seems to exemplify my struggles:
You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away, know when to run
You can't count your money when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time for counting cards when the game is done
